I've tried to adjust the rear suspension on my 2000 VFR. When I came to the bottom adjustment screw on the rear shock (for the life of me I cannot remember what this adjustment is called right now....pre-load or damping?) the screw just keeps turning. I tried to back it out to get a starting point but it will not stop or click in either direction.

Has anyone else experienced this? The bike doesn't seem to handle adversly but I haven't had it very long to have much to compare it to. do I need another rear shock or is there something I can do to fix this?

This happens on occasion. It's not real common but I see a shock come through my shop like this about every other week or so. What has occurred is that your adjustment screw has gotten some corrosion which siezed it up. Someone has then tried to turn the screw and forced it - breaking the small diameter on the inside. Now when you turn the part sticking out with a screwdriver nothing on the inside is moving.

When it is frozen there is a way to fix it, but now that yours is broken the only way to repair it would be to replace the entire lower clevis of the shock. One of these days I plan to make the fix for the screw a video How To on my site.

    Thanks for the reply.

Looks like I'll be keeping an eye open for a gently used rear shock assy.

I still have the rear shock from my 2000 VFR and you are welcome to it if you don't mind paying shipping. I installed a CBR929 shock that Jamie at Daugherty Motorsports built for me and have no real use for the old shock. The bike had about 57,000 km's on it and the rear shock did feel a bit soft, but I wanted a performance upgrade so I went with Jamie's CBR929 replacement. I'm not sure what the shipping would be from BC to Nova Scotia but I would be happy to check if you like. PM me an address if you are interested.

I just wanted to give a big THANKS to zoom-zoom. I recieved his rear shock today which he generously donated to my cause. It looks like new and I can't wait to get it fitted. Thanks again, you are a huge help, from one coast all the way to the other!
