Although I have only owned my VFR 1200 for a month, I have managed to put a bunch of miles on it (2000). One of the things that bugged me a lot was the location of the rear shock preload adjust knob. I was unable to get a satisfactory grip on it to adjust it and did not want to attack the knob with a big set of pliers, so I decided to see what could be done. I removed the 6mm bolt that holds the adjuster mechanism on to the back of the left rear foot peg. I noticed that one hole was bigger (the one for the 6mm bolt), and one was smaller. This smaller hole is for the locating pin which is on the rear foot peg itself. I removed the bracket and enlarged the locating pin hole so that the 6mm bolt will now fit through the bracket and remounted the whole thing. I used the former (now enlarged) locating hole as the bolt hole and bolted the bracket back in place. This lowered the adjuster knob about 3/8" and I can now wrap my fingers around the knob without any issues and even adjust it with gloves on. There are NO clearance issues with the swing arm and the bracket is as steady as it was before. I used a small drop of blue Locktite on the bolt when reinstalling it to the back of the foot peg. This quick mod made twiddling with the rear shock preload a snap and I tend to use it much more for fine tuning for road conditions and aggression levels. Sredder 2010 VFR 08 FJR other toys
good tip and I'll take a look. I have noticed that I can not adjust the knob when the bike is hot. it seems to lock up when hot. just adjust when cold.
