Well it was 98deg in the garage yesterday and I was determined to see if my RC51 shock woul fit on the 98 VFR so I tore it appart. You know your bored when you will face 98deg plus the humidex tp play with your bike!!

Anyway the bottom line is NO, It will not fit for three good reasons.

    1. The piggy back reservoir hits the battery box
    2. The lower attachment is configured differently and will not fit the Pro Arm links. If you could swap them between the shocks, it may be possible but I don't have the spring compressor to dissasemble it and see.
    3. The shock is marginally shorter from eye to eye so it will not help the ground clearance issue or increase steering.

So I moved on to plan 2

I cleaned and greased all of the needle bearings and decided that a shim above the upper shock mount will work just as well. I found a bushing approximately .275" thick and slid it over the upper shock mount before reassembly. I'll post a picture.

    The result?
Th rear end is about an inch higher static if measured at the tail light lens. The seat feels noticably higher and the riding position is much more agressive. A brief ride reveals that the bike is still stable at low speeds and turns neutral still. It feels good!

The next track day will tell me how we fared as far as peg and lever clearance.
