Well, I finally got tired of staring at the stock rear fender. I bought a fender eliminator kit on ebay, and went to work. It arrived in a plain box, with just a little piece of metal, no instructions whatsoever. It was basically an unnecessary piece, but I did find a use for it after taking the jigsaw to my stock fender. This way I was able to keep the trunk space underneath the seat. I'll stick the pre-post pics in this message if I figure it out... Anyway, I like it better... Next is those bug-eyed marker lights up front... Has anyone changed those to something smaller that I can gaze at a picture of?

Step 1: You can see the little metal thing I got from ebay. I ended up screwing it right into the plastic for a license plate mount...

Step 2: See the professional quality magic marker line across the soon to be carved fender...

    Here's the finished product:

nah, that's way more fancy than what I bought. Let me see if I can find it in my ebay history...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hond...ryZ34284QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

that's it. All you get is the little piece of metal that you see in my article links. It's a very simple, cheap solution. The one you are looking at probably is better, but it's over $100 more so... If you look in my photos, you can see the tools and stuff laying on a table. The little piece of metal is the bracket that the guy sent me. You could get away doing the elim without it, but it makes for an easy license plate mount...

Well, you better insert beer of choice if you plan on doing motorcycle maintenance! It's mandatory! hehe. I'm working on a how-to for changing a front tire right now. I just registered for photbucket. What a PIA! At least it's done, now (the registration, not the article.)

I don't have any bracket at all. The plate is just bolted directly to the remains of the plastic fender. Works fine!

The bike would look nice with a nice RC51 type rear end and a hugger!

    Hmmmmmmm

    Time to shop.

I have a givi. I'm thinking of selling it and getting a DB or the one that Okie has. I want a really dark one, but I have been looking at these chrome looking screens a little, too. They are kind of neat.

Does anybody put the light over the plate? One more thing Reg, what kind of tires did you put on your bike that you have been raving about?

I just did my fender last nite and was able to keep the light with some rigging. Check it out in my gallery if you want. I could tell you how i did it.

I considered doing the full fender eliminator thing, but had heard if you get caught in the rain you'd regret it. More gunk will sling to the tail light and on you back side. Being the cheap bastard I am, I thought just move the plate up high as it can go and figure out some legal plate lite. So I just chopped the fender at the bottom of the plate. For light, I found an LED style that was quite compact and made a plate and light bracket to tye it together.

It worked out better than expected, clean looking and still functional.

I posted photo in my gallery.

Getting ready to tackle this project in the next couple of days after putting on the Staintunes last night  Mello Dude's modifications looks great but i'm more after the look that jethro911 & freewheelburner has. On the plate bracket, does it screw into the plastic part where the manuel is stored and I think I'm going to attempt to keep the light, I don't think it should be a problem but how did you do it freewheelburner?

I like the looks of that! Where did you get the LED? You said you fabbed the bracket....or did you buy the light/bracket combo? Either way, I'd like more detail, as that's the route I'd like to go. I looked at moving the OEM light up, but didn't bother because it didn't do enough cleaning up IMO.
    Please tell more.

I eliminated the external tail light altogether by using the tail light bulbs to illuminate the license. There is an opaque panel under the twin tail lights which can be cut out with a dremel and replaced with clear lexan which will allow the tail lights to shine down on the license plate. Very clean! This is the way it should have been done by the factory.

The bracket is just hacksawed and filed out of 1/8 inch alum from Lowe's. The paint is from a handy rattlecan. The lite comes with a template you have to use for the shape. I'll have to check the vendor name from home(I'm at work). I removed the reflector up by the tailight and drill hole in the fendor plastic to get it to fit. Then everything is mounted 6mm bolts and nuts with rubber grommets also from Lowe's. Not a hard job, it just took some patience to ensure everything lines up square before you drill your holes.

RW, I used nothing but a drill and dremel. Used all stock parts. First I traced a line in pencil following the tail. 45'd it ant the end down to the raised portion just below the reflector. Took off the tail. removed the license pplate and light/bracket. Cut the fender on the scribed line. Now you have the rest of the fender with the light attached. Cut fender to the hole for the light wire. Now you have the light and plate bracket. Undo the screws and remove plate bracket. All you want left is the light and cover with screws intact. remove the reflector. Next you need to cut a U shaped groove in the fender where the back of the light assembly can rest just below the tail light. Then two holes for the bolts on the light. (there will be two holw from the reflector that youcan use , need to drill one more on the left. I had to make the big enough for the nuts on the light casing to stick out could not fasten using stock bolts, Too short. Now you have it centered, but you need a place for the wire to rest behind the plate, you will need to cut a groove for the wire..pull up the slack under the seat and your ready to attach your plate. the light is held into place more by pressure than anything else it is sandwiched between the tail light and the plate. I can give you more photos if you need them
