I am going tommorrow to test ride this bike Honda 1998 VFR800 . My question is I notice that it is missing the rear cowl that covers the passenger seat. Is this piece something that comes stock? If they are missing this piece how much is it and should I negotiate this in the price? Also, where exactly is the R/R located at so I can check and see if it updated or not? Is the tool pouche located under the seat? Sorry for so many questions, just making sure I don't miss something. Let me know if there is any questions I need to ask, I will test ride it after work tommorrow. I am pumped about it, thanks again!!

Good luck on the '98 - thats my bike too. The rear cowl come stock with the bike from the dealer. But lots of times it gets lost or if its unused people sell them. I dont think you can really ding a seller if he doesnt have it.
-- The R/R is on the left side mounted in the tail. You cant really spot it without taking the tail off. - If if hasnt been changed plan on about 200 bucks to get it updated and set up right.
    - Yes the tool kit is under the seat next to the battery. - If the mileage is over 16k, ask if there has been a valve check. Of course all the classic questions - has it been dropped? What oil are you running and how often did you change it? -- Stick your finger in the oil fill and see if the oil looks clean or it come out and looks/feels like gritty molasis.

Pretty much use your head.... good luck!

The rear cowl can be found used for less than $50 so it missing is not much of a bargining tool. The RR is located under the rear fairing on the left(stator) side of the bike. Tool pouch should be under the seat and will cost you about $50 used if you dont have it and need feel the need to replace it with the honda oem kit. Of course check teh condition of the chain, tires, brake fluid, oil, check the inside of the fuel tank for rust, hack(sloppy) electrical work, leaking fork seals and or squshy sounding suspension, thin brake pads, any evidence of the bike being laid down or previosly wrecked, and play in the steering head.

When you click on this link Honda 1998 VFR800 it shows the bike. It has 23000 miles and was supposedly owned by a 62 year old man. I plan on trying to get the man's phone number from the dealer so I can call him. So I won't worry about the cowl and the R/R is something that I will have to deal with if and after I get the bike. Thanks again for all you guys help. It is really appreciated.

Check that tool kit for the "c-spanner" type tool. Adjusting the chain tension without it, would be a drag.

    Good Luck!
