Is the rear brake torque link for my '87 VFR700 supposed to be bent like this? I ask because it doesn't seem to mount up flush to the caliper mounting bracket. It causes binding that I noticed when I pulled the rear axle and wheel. It seems like it places awkard pressure on the whole brake assembly.

I checked the parts diagrams and they show the link straight, with no bends. Here is a picture, if someone can confirm it is supposed to be this way that would help.

    Bent

I have seen that bend used before to fit an F2 wheel with a 160 tire on the rear of a 1st gen VFR. The correct way to fit the F2 wheel is to notch the reaction arm slightly where the tire would otherwise hit it. The bend will cause uneven pad wear in the rear brake. I have 2 of these arms; one is stock and the other is notched for the F2 wheel conversion. Do you need one or the other?

    Hi waldrm,

Thanks for the info. Things are starting to make a lot more sense. The rear rotor and pads are totally hashed and I'm guessing it was related to this bent link. I just hope I don't find any more bent parts. I checked the tab on the swingarm and it is slightly tweaked, but it's very minor and should not be a problem. Probably occurred when I was muscling on it trying to bend things back in shape.

I am fitting a 140/70/18 on the rear and I don't think I will have any clearance problems. I removed a stock size tire 130/80-18 that the previous owner had on there, but you never know what could have happened in the past.

I appreciate the offer on the links. I am working on getting one from DANIMAL right now. If for some reason I still need one I will let you know.

hope you got my email from work. I run the same size tire on the rear wheel of my 86 VFR and have had no clearance issues you should be fine. like I said if you need anything else, just ask. we gotta keep these classic V4 on the road.
