I had my rear axel nut loosen during riding the bike. The whole sporcket assambly fell off and the chain fell (obviously). Talked to my mechanic which claimed he never heard such a case. He never tuched this nut as it was not supposed to be serviced. Any one hear of a simmilar case ?
Yes. See my entry in this forum entitled, "ATTN: All Single-Side VFR's". Short story: The axle nut is supposed to be torqued to 144ft-lbs on the 3rd-4th gen VFR's, 156ft-lbs on 5th-6th gen. As you ride and corner and brake and accelerate, the damping rubbers compact. AT LEAST every 20k miles one should (re)tighten this axle nut (46mm) and check it occasionally. You're right - there's no mention of it in the service manual. You've been warned. Scott
Thanks, Exactly the same phenomena occured to us (it's my wife bike) we are at 62K now just after the 60K service. The nut spun off the bike and after him the scorcket and chaine ( at about 60MPH). Lucklly the chaine wasn't cuaght on the axel and she could stop the bike. the chaine and sporckets damaged from the impact as well as the front sporcket cover :-[ . I stand warrned
