I have a 1983 VF750f. It is jetted with 110 and 112. I thought it strange that the '83 bike was not jetted with 128 main jets. The two original carbs are as follows (the fourth letters have boxes around them):

    61BDWI

    61BDWI

Two of the carbs were damaged and I replaced them with the following:

61BBVH - a Canadian bike but a different year that I bought for parts

    52ACVB - a US bike - purchased on Ebay

What do the letters mean and is it possible to mix and match these carbs? They look identical and fit together.

The service manual lists the the 84 carbs as vD52C/VD52D. The 83 carbs are VD52B but does not reference 61 carbs. Is the last number on the code the same as the fourth letter in the box on the carbs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't installed the carburettors or had the bike running yet. I wanted to get it right before installing them. I am having trouble adjusting/syncing the front pair. The butterfly's don't seem to line up.

if the synch screw for the front pair doesn't work to align throttle plates something may be seriously bent or improperly assembled.

maybe try loosening the rear screw that ties front to back since screw settings interact to some degree. are you sure synch springs are in the right positions ?
