So I've heard or read, can't remember, so thought I'd ask isn't the 5th gen engine built off the RC45 engine? I heard that they where, but since I was a 4th gen owner at the time it was just news. Well now that I have one. thought maybe that right side engine case cover in magnesium would be cool. Anyone done this or know for sure?

Yes the RC45 Magnesium race covers should bolt straight on to the 5th gen, BUT if you can find them, they are like rocking horse poop & if you do find one that has NOT been crashed, they are normally silly expensive. I've been looking on & off for 10 years, still not found ones I could afford :(

Cool yes, but only you will know as they look just like the standard ones. Just like my Custom Ti axle, swingarm shaft & main engine mount bolt, no one would ever know unless I tell them.

So cool of you to drop a note Mohawk, I have a connection up north in BC where the RCs where a bit more common. in that maybe one could be snagged, yes a know, pretty much hens teeth, but ya never know till you poke around. Interesting read on how you did the rear to handle the single nut via a VFR400 rear axle? One of my pet peeves with the VFR, MY god Honda what where you thinking, sheesh had it on the NR. Wondering now if you could let me know what all that was about? first off read says it wasn't that bad , less of course having the parts. Yea, I know, it's my secret, no one else will see nor understand that's ok, it's my bike ;) While I have you here, in your opinion what was your biggest gains HP or engine efficiency you felt was more straight forward? ECU / PC? I'm thinking of tweaking it little bit if that's possible. With a stock air filter and no mapping just a staintune on 93 pump gas saw 101hp . believe it was a Dyno jet, It was ran by of all folks an ex HRC tunner, Mike Valsco here in the PNW. He knows his stuff when it comes the VFRs. ;) That 110hp mark seems fairly reachable (if).

Biggest bang for buck on this engine is a TBR full system + fuelling module setup properly. Like a Powercommander or Rapid bike unit. Together these should add 10-12hp, so from 95 std, to 108hp ish. After that you have to do some work.

If you are interested in the rear wheel single nut conversion, HighsideNZ on VFRD has copied my work & has cad files of all the parts on his thread, check it out.

If you find those magnesium cases, let me know if there a spare ! Only thing to check is if the Mag clutch side case has the dual ignition pickup locations, the std one has one for VFR & one for RC45, due to the different crank firing order. I've not seen the inside of a Mag cover so can't tell !
