well, today my bike left me almost down...
had to push start it as the battery was dead.
recharged it and for the ease of mind checked the voltage with the engine working.
at idle the voltage was ok,but as more i accelarate the low the voltage was...
lights would also drop the voltage.
if i let it idle the voltage would slowly increase to the good range...

voltage regulator was changed 5 years ago for a aftermarket one but then the voltage would spike with rpms, not decrease...
tryed to use a yamaha r1 regulator but with the same results...dont know for sure if the RR is the same but it warmed up so i guess it was working...
    what could it be?

i would appreciate any info on how to test to look for faulty stuff, and i have some urgency as its my daily ride...

pics of the parts involved on charging elements to check would be a good help...

    greetings from portugal:thumbsup:

checkd the r/r and prolably shot.
according to the chart the ohms only appear at the r/r when i swicth the tester terminals.
with the r1 r/r the values are ok,so this r/r is fine.

measured the resistance on the 3 yellow wires comming from the alternator and according to the ignition coil verification chart its all ok,as i measure0.7/0.8 and the chart says 0.1 to 1.

the leakeage tst shos that is fine too.

something is missing as the charge is steady on 13.5 but as soon as i put max beam on it drop to middle 12...

a little help would be good...

starting to check the wires to see if i have something wrong there...:frown:

    Voltage check

I'm not an expert on electrical problems but I have a similar issue to yours. I found the problem on mine was that the stator was overheating once the bike warmed up and was putting out no more than 4VAC at idle and would drop when the engine was revved.

This fault finding flow chart helped me out a bit:

    http://www.rmstator.com/PDF/fault_finding.pdf

I had also received the same advice from my mechanic but the chart explained better.

This is the test (from page 2) that I used off the chart to check my stator:

" Switch the multimeter AC-Voltage (Range at least to 100 Vac). Make sure you DON'T switch it to DC-Voltage (=DCV or Vdc). Connect the multimeter leads between two of the three YELLOW (or WHITE = Yamaha) wires coming from the stator. Start the engine and rev it up to app. 5000rpm. Check the reading on the meter. Switch one of the multimeter leads to another YELLOW (or WHITE) wire, and check the reading again. Switch the other multimeter-lead to another YELLOW (or WHITE) wire, and check the reading again."

I hope you find whats ailing your bike.

I had almost the exact same problem this weekend. When I bought my 02 two weeks ago the battery died on me on my way home. Put a new battery in it and check the voltage with the bike off and at idle and it seemed to be charging. Everything was fine last week on my 50 mile a day commute until I headed up to Reno (from San Francisco) and back this weekend. Temperature were in the high 90's the whole way and this was the first time I have ridden the bike in such temperatures. On Sunday on my way home, the bike simply would not start after I stopped to check my map. Luckily I was in front of a small business where the owner had a charger and volt meter. After 30 min on his charger I was able to continue on my way and make it home. I'm going to try out the flow chart and see where It leads me.
