This is strange .. I have a rc36 frame with an Rc35 engine with a 6 speed gearbox ? This was a jap import into New Zealand. So I really don't know what I'm dealing with here, I suppose to find out if it's a restricted model or not is to compare cam shaft numbers. The difference between an rc36 and rc35 is that the rc35's were the jap police bikes, they came out with 5 speed box's and restricted motors. The way they are restricted is by using different camshafts,Cdi units, carbs (mine has vdj2a carbs on it instead of vdj4a) different crankcases (so maybe different Pistons) restricted airflow air boxes, and different speedo units that had speed cut in them. Also different mufflers. Address all that and you have an rc36. Just seems like some jap has done an engine conversion before shipping it to New Zealand.

How'd you go? Thanks for sharing your story. A mate of mine just bought me a R 35 motor and parts cheap at auction as I have an 1997 rc36. We didn't know it was an rc35 till I already owned it! I'm considering my options... It's only done 30,000 kms allegedly but to have to open it up and change cams is less than ideal but still cheaper than a full rebuild obviously. My 1997 VFR has 85,000 km's on it. I am getting on maybe I need to slow down and 5 gears might be easier to manage!!
