RC24/RC26 building a stand

I need to pull the forks plus front & rear wheels from a 87 VFR700. I also have a 86 that will need similar treatment soon. I won't be able to use the usual front stand. I recall the factory manual had mention of putting a rod through the subframe as part of frame stand.

I am considering using scrap lumber to build something to hold the bike while it waits sans wheels.
Has anyone built a stand like this ?
Any suggestions of right or wrong to hold up the bike ?

I know you said you wanted to lift the entire bike up, but seems like it'd be easier to just do one end at a time.

On my 3rd Gen......I used a scissors jack under the exhaust pipes to get the front wheel up. It worked out just fine.

i never read anything about a rod officially, i just thought it looked too convenient not to do. As big a steel rod as you can jam in there, the holes line up on both sides. I put a tennis ball ont he end of the rod after running into it and cutting the hell out of myself.

It is guidance in the 6G manual when pulling the engine. I built a stand from parts obtained at Harbor Freight. You do have to pull the inner fender, at least on a 6G.

I ended buying a platform style jack (orange) under the frame tabs for the centerstand. This is a cheap knock-off of a K&L product.
I used this along with a 18" length of round metal bar under the oil pan held up by jack stands. There is a short piece of pvc pipe on the metal bar to prevent scratching the oil pan.
I found the scissor jack unstable, even with a rear wheel (paddock) stand. Also without the mufflers installed, the front exhaust pipes don't have enough strength to lift the bike (ie. they bend).

 

I bought a Abba Skylift - can lift the bike 3 ways - front or rear up or level. Not cheap but very versatile and bije can be moved around when in air (as long as floor is level).

Not got a pic of it with my VF500 but have used it.
