Excuse the newbie questions. The majority of my VFR ownership has consisted of me looking at the bike in the garage trying not to freeze my...well , you know. Anyway I'm looking forward to spring and trying to get the bike ready to go. I have heard from various people that the bars can be raised to some extent without using risers. Is this true, is it safe, and can someone tell me how to do it? Otherwise are Genmar risers the only game in town or is there something else comparable (and maybe a little less expensive)?
I think you can raise them a few millimeters. If you look there is a ring near the top of the tubes. That's how much room you have to go up. Rogue makes some risers also that get them a little higher. Then there is genmar and helibars which bring them up and back.
I don't think there is a problem raising them a small amount but you have to make sure the torque on the bolt is right. If you raise them to the top of the fork tube the locating pin is no longer engaged so there is some chance of the bars sliding front to back of the bolt torque is not correct.
