I have just ordered a radar detector which I should be receiving anytime. It is an Escort Solo S2, it is cordless and runs on 2 AA bats. My reason for going with the cordless is so that I can hopefully use it for my car and the VFR. Is anybody familliar with this model and how well do they fit on the VFR. Any pics of radar detectors mounted on the current model VFR would be great.
VFR Radar Detector Good question, I was thinking of doing the same myself, especially after readi ng the "European Cannonball" story a month or so ago... It looks like the actual until could mount under the fairing, but getting the indicator in a position where you could see it easily would be the problem. I have a friend who is electronically inclined, and he stated he could pull it apart and mount the components seperately. The angle of the windscreen on my 04 would make mounting a unit difficult. Anyone done this with great results?
Cant speak for bike mounting as I dont use either of my Escort wireless detectors on the bike. I keep the newer S-2 in my Benz and it works great. Escort is TOP NOTCH in the industry.
One of my friends has a V1 mounted in each of his bikes (R1 and Bandit). He places the unit itself inside the front fairing, out of the elements and out of sight. V1 has a remote display that he mounts to the handle bars to the side of the turn-signals. You'd never know it was there, unless you're looking specifically for the 4 red arrows of the detector. Turn off the bike when pulled over by your friendly officer, and the detector kicks off and is just a black box on the handle-bars. Probably wouldn't fool a CHP on a bike, but the ones that don't ride probably won't see anything out of place. On his bandit, he has the system rigged into the radio as well (Ham radio built into hard luggage), so he gets the chirps in his helmet as well as the visual indication. The audio also has a remote control that can be wired in place. The total setup is probably $600/bike, but you can always send in the V1s for service and new firmware (always upgradeable is kinda nice).
