I ride a '99 vfr 800 and want to use my escort 8500 and garmin c330. I would like to mount the escort semi permanent, and I know about ram mounts but I already have a double bubble windscreen.
I want to mount the escort down out of the windstream.
    ANY ideas?

That's where I have the ram mount on my bike. Pics are in my gallery.

Looks like a nice setup. Is that street pilot weather/water resistant to any degree?

Techmount has a "Stem Mount" bracket that works pretty well. I have my GPS on one. Here Is A Page that details the mount. In short, remove the plug in your steering stem and shove the mount down in the hole in the stem.

I only have two complaints with it:
    1) The o-rings that supposedly "Hold It Securely" don't hold it as tight as I'd like and it tends to pivot a little.

    2) Security is non-existant if anyone knows what they are looking at. Grab the GPS and pull and the GPS, mount, and all pop right out of the stem.

David, looks like a nice setup. I also have the Bagster tank cover/bag.
When you have the tank bag on and full, can you see the GPS display?

Would it be possible to just put the GPS inside the tank bag clear cover and use it that way?

On long trips I would like to have GPS and my radar detector operating.

I use the mounts by, http://www.gadgetguy.net/

never really liked the looks of the Ram mounts, but people who have them, love them

There is also www.saeng.com with some mounts

and for Derstuka, the StreetPilots are water proof, as are most Garmin products

I made my GPS bracket. The top is made for my Garmin GPSIII, but a top can be made for almost any GPS or radar detector.

With the Bagster on I have to use the 5.25" arm I bought, the standard arm isn't long enough. I haven't got around to taking any pics when I've got the longer arm on.

You may get away with putting the GPS inside the top cover, but you probably would find it difficult to do anything with it while you are riding. You would most likely have to stop first.

Someone here in Sydney has a twin mount, he has his GPS & 2-way radio set up on it. Have a look at wherever you buy your ram mounts from.
