???Is The R/R a problem on the first vfr:s also? I got a 87 and started notis that the brightness on the light has started to vary. When mesured it vary from 12.4 to 13.6 volts. is this normal or a sign that the R/R is coming to its end? the bike has 62000km/39000mils on it .
Yes, the '86-87 vfr's also suffer from r/r failures. Check voltage readings with engine running as per instructions in a service manual. If the r/r is bad, first check the wire connectors. They have a history of corroding and then the added resistance causes them to heat up to the point where they will burn. Once everything checks out o.k. think about relocating the r/r to a spot on the outside of the subframe. This gets them out of the hot air in the middle of the chassis and into a cooler air stream.
