R/R and stray voltage.....

I searched but to no avail. 1986 VFR700F2. Bike intermittently dies on me. Sometimes it is a couple of days sometimes weeks till it happens again. I have a shop manual but the chapter with the with the wiring diagram is missing. The first thing that it ask you to do is a voltage leakdown of the battery. I disconnected the negative ground cable from the battery and pulled it aside. When I place a meter from the neg. terminal of the battery to the ground cable I should get 0 volts with the key in the off position. No such luck, I am getting 11.43 volts through what should be a grounded connection. When I pulls the stator plug up near the fuel pump the condition remains the same. When I pull the R/R plug the meter drops to 0 volts. If i plug the R/R back in and run a wire from the outer case of it to the negative terminal on the battery I get 0 volts. Now I'm not an electrical wizard but it seems to me that the R/R is bleeding voltage into it's case and transferring it through the frame and to the ground where the cable connects. Does that sound about right to you all ? My thoughts are a shot R/R.
Some other measurements are.
Battery voltage not running is 12.55 v , this thing has taken a beating though.
Charging voltage across the battery at idle is 13.25 volts.
Stator voltage when unplugged, bike running off of battery only at idle is 25.5 volts AC consistent across all 3 legs.
Any other tests I can do to eliminate other possible problems?
Any place to download the wiring diagram for this bike, the shop manual I am using is the Honda one.

PS, I just got back from Oklahoma on it , I put 3653 miles on over 3 weeks and the above problem happened 3 times.

 

If you've disconnected the negative cable and are hooking your meter up in series, you should be on the amps setting to check systems draw. Charging voltage seems a bit low (13.25vdc), is that at idle? Does it increase with rpm's?
