I read an alarming post about R&G frame sliders not working on a pre '98 bike: "Those of you with R&G frame sliders or contemplating buying them will probably want to read this. About three weeks ago, my VFR fell victim to a member of the bump'n'run parking set here in DC. She ended up flat on her left side at 2 o'clock in the morning. As you may recall, if have the R&G sliders on the bike since last summer, (www.wilsonline.org/vfr/bobbins.htm) but this was their first "field test." Sadly, they failed miserably. I installed them according to the instructions. However, under the impact of the tipover, the bobbin became "impaled" on the spacer, causing the small end of the plastic bobbin to mushroom. The plastic slider was shoved toward the bike. The bike came to rest on the steel bar that ties the bobbin to the engine. In this position, sad to say, my middle fairing in now hosed, as the center part of the fairing buckled and cracked. Sorry, no pictures, as my digital cam fell victim to "kitty" this week. A drawing is probably clearer anyway. I've prepared an AutoCAD drawing outlining what happened, and the proposed fix. You need to insert a hefty washer between the sleeve inside the bobbin and the spacer. This spreads the load and keeps the bobbin from flaring. A washer slightly larger than the spacer should work great." Any comments on this guys?
