Do you think you need it? Of all the accessories you can put on a VFR, a quick shifter would not be at the top of my list-but hey, it's your bike.

I have one my ‘14 since I got it and love it. Makes everyday riding a pleasure. Only other accessories I have are lowered foot pegs and Motopump’s risers.

I have one, but I rarely use it. I guess I use it in maximum 5% of all my upshifts, as over here (Belgium), there are more speed cameras than you can "handle" successfully (you understand what I mean) when systematically using the quickshifter (= when using it when upshifting under harder acceleration).

I don't feel like I need it to be able follow most of the bikers I ride with, as the gain in acceleration is marginal and unnoticeable.

That's about how you can look at it indeed. The decision then just depends on "how much" (either money you want to spend, either how much fun you expect to get)

They are lots of fun! You will have a blast. The install is pretty simple don't pay someone to do it for you. Have a good time with it!

Will a quick-shifter contribute to quicker wear to the gears?

I doubt it as QS monetarily kills the engine to take the load off the gearbox, if anything it should slow the wear.

You can also use the clutch at the same time, which I do sometimes out of habit!

Less wear than disengaging the gears?

Never heard of a vfr with worn out gears, let alone any bike come to think of it.

Used properly a quick shifter puts less strain on the gears

It’s a great item. I installed my first one a couple of months after I got the bike in 2014. I broke the peg off a couple years ago, just drilled the plate and installed a replacement. After busting the peg off again recently, leaving the geometry unusable for another repair, I bought a replacement from a supplier in Japan for $150 delivered. Shop around, that’s basically half price vs most US suppliers.

Thanks for the tip! How might one who only speaks English find a supplier in Japan.

Ordered one online from Japan and installed it on my 2015. One of my favourite mods. Very satisfying.
