I have a 93 VFR750F I am having starting issues. From a cold crank I can get the bike to crank by giving the throttle 4 to 5 quick turns and w/choke on and the bike will start right up. After riding for a few minutes if I turn the bike off and try to start it again it wont crank. So I am having to jump start the bike. Is this a starter clutch issue or something else? The battery is charged when I check it. But goes down quickly when I try to restart the bike. One would think it would be easier to crank after you get past the cold start right?
Hijack warning OK, first on the post, I had a 82 magna v-4 that did that all the time. it ended up being the starter selinoid getting hot. by the time it started it was cool. but that did not make a difference untill a restart. So id check if you are getting power to the selinoild when you hit the start botton. Hijack part: I cant send image in private message so here is the explenation of how i changed tails... started by stripping all the plastics and electrical. I took note of the currnet way every thing was mounted like fuel pump,RR and asorted electral. Brake light and signals, mark the wire if you dont have the manual and ditch them in the spare part bin. First pic. I then pulled the tail subframe off the bike. I then gound away all the welds that kept it together and planned on shortining it and dropping weight here i could. Keep in ming where all the electical componants need to go and how they mount. I was able to use all the rubber and hardware when i reattached the steel plates and tabbs in the correct locations. Second pic. Now here is where you gotta get creative. WHAT TAIL? I went and logged on (where else?) EBAY! the plan was a solo seater because she had no intentions of ever having a passenger. I got 2 tail for less than $100. one an yam 600 1986 tail and one off a 2000 yam R-6 racer. both used and needed love. the 2000 just cooperated better to fit it all up. A- this is the stock mounting points of the tail frame. slightly angled up on the upper, and dramatic on the lower. I shortened it alot. B- the blue lines are roughly the location on the steel frame. The high point has a pad that supports the tail with as little added weight possible. I wanted a lighter VFR, not more steel. passenger pegs also went to the bin. C- the turns and plate bount are right outta spare part bin ( as noted earlier) turns off a 2004 yam FZ1, and plate and light of a 2006 Shadow VLX. they look better now, but i wanted it on the road and leagal. Break light/running light was an oval LED trailer lamp from the automotive store mounted in an aluminum plate bolted to the frame. D- notes the new location of the RR on this side of the bike for refferance. E- I chopped the seat right off with a sawzall. not fancy but it worked. the new set mount is a bolt and wing nut through the plactic pan. I reshaped the foam with an electric turkey knife and stapled new vinyl over the foam. there was a gap. i used a leather tool bag to fill it and give her some sort of storage. Third pic. Better pic of how it rolled out last year. new smaller signals now. planning on a high mount for the pipe this year before the season starts. well thats how I did it. Good luck.
I want to keep mine a two seater. But I will look into the tail piece to see if I can work with it. Thanks for the info....
