Do you guys know how extactly to run the 12ga yellow wires from the stator to the R/R? They might all be the same design, but its on the 90-93 model 750 When I looked last night... There are 2 sets of (3) yellows off the stator. They are connected by a small plastic connector- 1 set runs directly to the stator... and the other set run to the wiring harness, which goes to the R/R Which is the set I wire from? There is a plastic connector, and which set runs which way? I cant tell. When I disconnect the pastic connetor piece, which set of 3 yellows goes directly to the stator and which set runs to the wiring harness/ RR? Can anyopne tell me? Thanks Steve
VFR Charging I'm relatively new to this forum so I hope this worked. I tried to upload the diagram from the 90-96 manual. There's a guy on this forum that posted the whole book if you can locate it. Mark
When I rewired mine, I simply re-used the 3-pin connector coming out of the wire harness(just above the clutch cover). I cut off all but 1" of the wire by the 3 pin connector, and soldered in the 12 gauge wire. I actually removed the old yellow wires from the harness (a sticky gross job), but I imagine this is not necessary. Re-taping the harness still in the bike is a chore! I ran the new 12 ga. wires back behind the frame and along the right side of the bike, and soldered on new terminals. Rather than having a plug, I have 5 separate terminals going into the R/R. I imagine the airflow into the R/R will be better this way(?). Two notes - 1.) keep track of your wires and mark them appropriately. I'm not sure if it matters with the Stator wires, but if you hook up the +/- wires backwards on the bike, your 30A main fuse will blow out when re-attaching the battery. Took me 3 fuses to figure this out. 2.) I re-used the 12v+ and GND terminals from the R/R connector. I did not wire the R/R directly to the battery as some have suggested. Maybe setting my new R/R up for premature failure??? I am adding a Pentium 3 heatsink(HUGE!!!) and a CPU fan to it this weekend. Will let you all know how that turns out.
Thanks. Please do let me know how your turns out!!!! Any suggestions after you have a finished product would be helpful. I was just looking at the CPU fans last night in radio shack. Which size will you use this weekend? They had 3 different types/sizes It seemed to me that the mini one definitely fits...though maybe too small The other was slightly larger maybe 1/2 inch thick x 2-3inch wide Wasnt sure how that would set up under the tail/ fender.
