So I have been looking for another bike for a while and came across an 02 VFR that has been down. It has a salvage title and the fairings are cracked and rashed on the right side. I have looked over the bike and rode it. Everything seems to be fine except for the fairings and the right hand mirror. It has two brothers exhaust, a power commander, and a few other bits. It has just under 10,000 miles. I think I can get it for right around $2,200. My old man is a body/paint man, so I could either fix up the fairings and paint or just find a new set which is what I would likely do. Anyways, I was just curious as to what everyone thinks about it and if it is a good deal! Thanks in advance... (Not scared or worried about the Salvaged title as I have owned a few auto's with them and had no problems or worries.)

It is depend, The cosmetic is not un issue here. The safty is more important to me since you only have 2 wheels. How is the frame and the susspension? Are they in good condition? Cause you will pay more in the long run. Just my 2cents

I have heard of bikes being totaled for cosmetic damage, but still wonder if there is not more to it than that. I would find out as much as possible about the crash and why it is a salvage. It would suck to buy it and find the frame is bent or the triple is cracked or something serious like that.

    Good Luck.

If you do buy it I have I think a spare RH or LH fairing in the box at home. I bought a downed one that hit fairly hard but new forks and some work and its getting there. BUrning or spattering a bit of oil on my end not sure if its in the packing or what, but seems to run okay but has a funky idle sound. We shall see I paid 2800 for mine but it was rideable when I got it.

The price seems fair but I'm with the others in thinking more investigation is needed. A cracked triple or frame can ruin a good ride when you least expect it...

Honestly, if all the weld joints look good, no stress or cracks and no other obvious damage to the frame I really wouldn't worry. You rode it so if it is driving straight and true then I would say go for it. I just purchased something in similar condition with no regrets.

I would take it in and get it inspected.
A bent frame can't be seen and can write a bike of same with cracks on the frame.

Ask him to pay for it and add the price to the amount you pay. Tus he pays if it fails.
