    This question is for anybody who has worked in the tourism business in some capacity. Do you notice that when people go on vacation, they often times leave their brain at home?

    You are assuming that they had a brain to leave behind...

    I have also noticed that what does remain of their ability to think goes away completely when;

    A. They attempt to operate a motor vehicle, especially in a parking lot

    B. They arrive at intersecting aisles in a grocery store

    If I ever catch myself acting similarly while I'm on vacation, I'll immediately drive home, put my affairs in order and end the whole thing. Of course, if I'm ever acting that brain-dead to begin with, I'd probably forget to eat or breath anyway.

    Having lived in a tourist town for many years, (not currently but some time ago) and having been on vacation myself a time a two, here are some things I have noticed.

    For some reason a significant number of people on vacation think that because they have spent what, for them, is a considerable amount of money, or in some scenarios really is a huge chunk of change , they then think everyone involved in their vacation must kiss their backside to make their vacation perfect in every way. They also may have some unrealistic expectations about the place they are going. For many, any variation from their script means disaster. This attitude most likely extends to every other facet of their lives and is an outgrowth of their general absorbtion with themselves. For these clowns, all it takes is to come across one surly local sick to death of answering the same stupid questions over and over to cloud their entire experience, but not to worry, these types as stated carry this mindset with them about everything anyway, and they expect vacation to be some utopia. There are a couple of defenses against this attitude, one is to smile and get their money as quickly as possible so they will get out of your life. The other is to try to find some way of connecting with them, or at least their very attractive teenage daughters.

    Rarely, you will run across someone that is just there to enjoy themselves, understands that they need to be on their best behavior, that the locals are not there only to serve them, and try to avoid all the tourist traps and maybe are there all by themselves and lonely. I f they are weathly widows, do everything in your power to make them feel welcome and relaxed, you might make a lifelong friend.

    I leave my brain at home so I don't loose it.
