Question on 2005 VFR vs 2007 VFR

    I was at the dealer and they had a leftover 2005, 2006, & 2007 VFR on the showroom floor. The 2005 had ABS and also a knob on the right side to adjust rear suspension preload. Neither the 2006 or 2007 had this adjustment.

    My question is, do the '06 and '07 also have a way to adjust rear suspension since they don't have the knob that is obvious? Is there something better about the 2005 rear shock?

    ABS model VFR's 02 to 09 have hydraulic preload adjustment for the rear shock,that's what the black handle is for. None
    ABS models use a spanner tool to adjust the spring preload on the shock.

    Other than it being easier to adjust preload with the knob instead of the spanner wrench, is there any other advantage to rear suspension that comes on the ABS models?

    nope they are the same except for the adjuster. One advantage to the later model ones (06 and newer) is that Honda massaged when it goes into VTEC to make it a bit smoother transition and more useable, so that's something to consider

    I've ridden both the older 6th Gens and the newer and I wouldn't say that the transition is any smoother on the newer models it just engages at a lower RPM. The whole point of lowering the VTEC engagement is to try to keep it from abruptly engaging when hitting the higher RPM's when cruising at highways speeds. If I had to do it all over again I would not buy a VFR with a VTEC. I've found the abrupt transition to be annoying when coming out of turns.

    I've noticed on my '06 that the more miles the easier the transition is.

    Okay another question, the little knob sticking out on the right side of the fairing just above the crank case, engine idle speed adjustment. Given the bike is fuel injected, is this something that really needs to be messed with? I think the bike is idling at 1100 rpm when warmed up (but I need to double check that). I'm sure there is an optimum idle speed and it is set from the factory, so is it just personal preference to increase or decrease the engine idle speed? Or maybe it is adjusted if aftermarket parts are installed?
