Are VFR's really expensive in Canada? Can you come to the USA and buy a good super clean low miles bike and bring it back to Canada without paying a fortune in import taxes and fees?

 

I have heard rumours of new pre-2010 VFRs going for $7K in the US. Aside from those crazy prices, the list price differential for new is probably not worth the effort to import from what I can tell. $11K US is around $12K Cdn, and you won't pay much more than that in Canada. I suspect it's a similar story for the 2010 but I can't say for sure. Once you get up over $15K the savings might be more significant and worth the effort. Import duties are not a deal killer.

 

Just bought a 2007 VFR is the US and added the bags. Taxes, duty, and everything else all in I saved $4500-$5000 Canadian. Best price I could find up here was $11,999 plus, plus plus. I've seen great deals on CBR600RR and liter bikes that would make it well worth it. Crossed my mind to bring more than one up.

 

I imported a used 2006 with 4500kms (2600 miles) in December that I got it off ebay for $5000US. After it was all said and done she probably cost me about $6600 Cdn with importing, taxes, driving down etc. Searching for the same bike up here the closest I found at the time was an 06 at a dealer for $7600+taxes and it had 5x the mileage on it. I can't speak for all of Canada but used Bike prices are steep here in Ontario. Right now Quebec is a great place to get a deal on any sport bike since the Provincial gov't there just increased the cost to plate a "sport" bike .

Back in November while searching ebay, cycletrader and craiglists I noticed a large amount or 05-07 VFR's with very low mileage for sale in the southern States. It seemed at the time just about every bike listed had less than 5000miles on it and they were going for $5000-$5500US. Add on top of that the glut of RWB 2007's marked down to $7000ish. The honda dealer up the Highway has a new 08ABS on sale for $11,498.00, the 09 they had was 12,500 or 13,500 if I remember right. After reading up here, vfrD and googling reviews I decided a 6th Gen out of the US was a great deal.
