Question about rims.

I have noticed that some of your bikes have black rims and just wondered if you guys are having them powder coated or did some years come with the black rims? My bike is a 08 and it's needs some contrast with all the silver.

 

Not 100% sure about the US VFR's but I believe that most of the bikes in Canada came with silver wheels. I think the only exception was the Red/White/Blue 6th gen models which came with black wheels. Personally, I have had the rims on my bike powder coated and it turned out great. There are many colors you could choose to powder coat your wheels, so as far as choice the skies the limit. My bike is a 2000 and it came with black wheels.

Stock '03, with black rims. Pretty sure those are stock.

 

I think for the most part they came with silver wheels. I am not sure about the 2007 anniversary bikes. They might have come with black wheels..

 

Stock paint color on my '08 is metallic silver body and wheels

 

My '09 came with white rims.

 

In the USA, up to 05 I beleive they were all black rims. After 06 they started coming out in silver. I could be wrong depending on the color options but jsut buy looking thats what I normally see.

 

anyone tried painting them? i would love to have white wheels (an exact match) on my rwb! but dont wanna have to be without my bike for too long while their being done. havent had any luck finding any aftemarket light weight wheels

 

My 2004 has silver rims.

 

My '05 was originally red with silver rims. Not anymore...

 

Where you will have a problem is if you want an exact match, you will need to paint them with pearlized white paint. You cannot get a pearl powder coat from what I understand. Many here say that paint does not hold up nearly as well as if you get them powder coated white. I am taking their word on that because simply put, I don't know and I trust those who have said this to me.

There are a couple here who have their RWB wheels powder coated in White and they look down right spanky. Look at stewartj239 and TOE CUTTER's avatars. I am sure they both have them powdered. Mine will also be done sometime in the future the same way.

 

Yes, my '07 rims came in black and I had them powdercoated white. That was 3+ years ago now and they are in still in perfect shape. Total cost for both rims was $100. I can post some pictures if you want or check my photo gallery - I think I've got some uploaded.

My stockers were a dark gray, so I ended up painting mine:

 

That was a bold color choice but I like it!!!

 

I have seriously thought about that colour. maybe a little lighter. Who knows. Still might.
