I was wondering what is the biggest rear tire you can put on a 1988 cbr 600 hurricane?

i had that bike red and white dam loved it ..sold it some scumbag stole it from friend i sold it to, anyhoo 140-80-17 stock can go with 150-80 or 160-60 was biggest i used to run but it makes the tire roll up basically the rim is not really wide enough for that tire so the side wall of tire is part tread but i ran those the best one i ever had was michellin sport 150 radial felt great front and rear good luck............

    A few things...

    1) Nobody on the CBR forums has been riding long enough to know anything about an '88 Hurricane. I'd post here, too. People here know stuff (See recent demographics thread).

    2) Why would you want to put a bigger tire on that machine? Why not just use the best quality tire that fits the rim? (This is an honest, straight-up question; I'd sincerely like to know)

    3) Gotta be nice to the CBR guys. For many, the CBR is a "gateway" bike (like a gateway drug, get it?). It would be great if we could keep them in the fold. More VFR buyers = better market = continuation of the species.

I've been thinking of finding a CBR F1 in good shape to restore and play with. They were great bikes. Most of them were flogged to death, so good ones are hard to find. A toy like that would keep me from wrenching on the VFR without a good reason.

I ran a 140 Metzeler on the back on mine, a Lasertec if I remember correctly, worked just fine.
