I have two real quick questions: 1. how hot is too hot for the engine temp my 99 vfr seems to get hot real quick how to stop it from doing that, ether with the way i ride, or a mod on my bike and what is safe temp? 2. the gauges on my bike are real dim i think some of the bulbs have been burnt out any rev indigo gauges made for this bike? any do it ur self change from green to a nother brighter color at all possible? andy input would be great! thanks in advance.

I never saw anything above 230, even in really hot humid weather or traffic regardless of how I rode. If you are consistently getting above 220 something is probably wrong. As far as the gauges go not sure if there is anything aftermarket available but you can find used ones on ebay. Never seen one dim sure your electrical system is ok?

 I have just purchased a 2001 VFR800FI. It does tend to get warm, like 227 after being on the freeway and then stoping at a light on the off ramp. It's been hot here in Temecula, California, and thus, the bike might be getting a bit hotter than normal. I too was wondering if there is a mod that will assist with cooling off the engine better.

I was also wondering if there is another VFR site where people gather and answer like questions.

I am also hearing a ticking sound from the engine. It goes not appear to affect the operation of the bike. Is this ticking normal?

    Thanks!

You could wire the fans to a switch but with the temps you are seeing I wouldn't say that is necessary. VFR discussion is much more active. A little ticking sound is normal.

VFRs run hot.  They're desinged that way.  Temps into the 230s are very common in hot weather/stop and go traffic.  Unless your little red bar (under the temp gauge on the LCD display) is blinking, the bike is probably fine.

However, a VFR that overheats (blinking red) or routinely runs in the 240s in normal operation could probably benefit from a coolant change/burp.  Also, a rock in the fan (left radiator) can stop it and blow the fuse causing overheating in stop-and-go traffic. Check to see if your fan kicks on (215) and off (205? Not sure) like it's supposed to.

Otherwise, my advice: Change the display to ambient temp and stop worrying about it.  If the temperature does get too high, the display switches back to engine temp on its own and you'll know it. (at 250 degrees F, I think)

    Hello!

My VFR got so hot in LV NV that the battery skipped out on me. After jumping it, it worked fine until a day later when the battery was dead. Replaced the battery, and thinking about replacing the R/R.

    The temp displayed was 331.
