    CMR,
I believe you are asking me what is the purpose / reason / use of the mounting bracket for the pulse generators. I also believe you are referring to either an 86 or 87 Interceptor…700 or 750.

If I am mistaken in these assumptions, ignore the following.

There are slight model variances between the “86 Interceptor VFR700F” and the “VFR700F2”. Similarly, there are also minor differenced between those bikes and the 87 version of the VFR700F2. I will stick with the 700s, but its understood the same applies for the 750. The answer to the question…

..is quite simply, detainment. Obviously we don’t want our pulse gens flopping around. In 86 the 700 had the single bracket…the one you linked. It’s a long bracket, which consists of 3 mounting points. The bracket mounts on a VFR700 and a VFR750 sub-frame; same for the 87 version too. Although it only uses 3 of the 4 available mounting holes. The mounting bracket for the VFR700 (single bracket) was bulky, long, not cost efficient, and has a clip feature to hold down the wire harness, (which was re-routed before the bike went into consumer production in 85). So… Given the unused feature, which cost money, and the extra metal, which cost money, and having the generators a separate part from the bracket, which costs money, they redesigned the pulse generator to be “post injection molded” with a small bracket with two feet on each side.

    ----------------------------

The VFR700F2 however, was cleaned up, and made more for the racing circuit as the starter frame and bike, back in the late 80’s. The pulse generators are separated and mounted via the new “molded in generator”, which again, incorporates the mounting brackets with it.

There is a rumor that the single bracket design came from production here in the US, whereas the modified pulse gen with bracket design came from production in Japan…but I cant confirm this with any proven documentation.

You may use the 86 VFR700 version bracket / pulse gen combo set, in replacement of the 86 VFR700F2 and 87 VFR700F2 one piece pulse gen / bracket part…and vise versa.

    Hope I answered your question.
