just picked a 500 with only 8900 miles, last registered in 04. lacks a gas tank but everything else seems to here. Watched a few videos on the Intercepters and look forward to some good rides. Crashed my K'Versys last April, broke my leg, arm and 2 toes.
I'm in Phoenix Az if anyone local wants to contact me.

Why saddle yourself with a lame horse ?? Take your insurance money and find something newer. The VF500 was an amazing bike when it waS new and ran right; today it's troublesome and antiquated, lacking in tires, wheels, suspension, brakes, power and reliability compared with most newer bikes.

Sure, good VF500s are OK bikes even now but not many are still good to go.

No one who had been riding a new-tech bike like your Versys could possibly be satisfied by 40 year old old-school technology unless your standards are impossibly low, and riding in that intense PHX traffic and horrible heat with freeway backups, you need all the advantages you can get.

    Welcome to the forum, :yo:
Hope you have fun putting the bike back into ride-able condition, & enjoy riding an old girl.

    Sincerely,

Only 8900 miles? Mechanically, that bike has still got some good life in it. Post up some pictures.

Welcome. Admittedly, the VF500F has a few quirks and needs TLC from time to time, but is well worth the effort and patience required to keep it going, which actually is not as much as some would lead you to believe. It is a ton of fun to ride and gets a lot of looks and comments. Don't let the disparaging remarks discourage you from bringing the bike back to life. There is plenty of info here about the bike, check out the 1st & 2nd gen forum. Keep us posted on the progress & show us a few pics.

Let me mention maxim #1, words of wisdom which every rider should know: "The best you've ridden is the best you know."

If all you understand is 40 year old junk, your references are outdated, and you're riding horses in the age of 32-valve Mustang 5 liter 4-cams, another horse entirely !!
