I've noticed lately that when my bike is cool <190F it's very easy to take off in 1st gear. Like it has a lot of torque near idle and I can take off smoothly with very little throttle application vs clutch application. Once the bike gets to it's hotter side the engine feels as if it's too lean and it doesn't have much power when I take off in 1st so it either stalls or I have to rev it significantly higher to keep it from stalling and then slip the clutch more to take off smoothly.

Has anybody else had any issues like this?

Same here with my 02 VFR800

I too am hoping to hear some feed back on this issue. I am hoping its just an oil change thing but I am no guru like many others here.

For me, after the bike has been ridden for a few miles and come to a stop, its like I'm starting out in second gear. (yes, I've triple checked which gear I'm in)

I'm looking forward to hearing back from the VFRW guru's.

    Thanks all,
    JohnB

I haven't had this issue on my VFR, but I have on my old vintage Honda. It usually gets this symptom when it's coming up due for an oil change....when the bike heats up, the clutch gets quite grabby (wet clutch). Have you changed the oil in the bike recently?

I notice the clutch on mine get ever so slightly grabby right as it fully engages when the bike is fully warmed up. Wet clutches are slaves to oil and operating temp. The clutch on my old bike used to slip on hard upshifts until I switched to rotella, and I've been using the rotella in the VFR and like it very much. Would running ten dollar a quart(motul, amsoil, maxima, motorex) motorcycle oil cure the slight grabbiness? Possibly, but it doesn't bother me enough for it to be worth it. The bike runs better on this stuff than the factory honda GN4, which isn't even synthetic.
