I'm putting new front turn signals on my bike and I' having a problem wiring them. There are three wires coming from the harness and only two places to connect them too. When I connect the grounds and then the remaining three wires together everything works, however the turn signals stay lit all the time like running lights. Is this how it should be?

If the turn signals that you're trying to wire into your bike only have two wires on them than you've got the wrong ones. Those two wire turn signals you've got are the rear turn signals. You need to get yourself the three wire turn signals which are used for the front.

Well I had them on before and they worked fine. I took them off to take the front fairing off because they're mounted to the fairing. Its been a while and I can't remember how the previous owner had them wired. Do the front turn signals on these bikes stay lit all the time as running lights?

No your turn signals are only supposed to come on when you activate the turn signal switch.

Are you sure. I've seen a video of a bike where I could see the front turn signals on constantly while the guy rode, like running lights. Also I was able to find my pair of stock turn signals and each of them has only two wires attached to them. Any ideas?

    There are 3 wires.

Ground, running lights, and turn signals. Running lights will feed power constantly and turn signals on activation. You can choose only turn signals and blank off the running, or you can wire those 2 to the on side. You will need diodes to activate one or the other. Someone else pipe up with the procedure.

Or you can get the right signals with 3 wires and be done with it.

Okay we got a little mixed up here with the nomenclature so let's back up just a bit Larrown.
When you asked if the front turn signals are supposed to be lit all the time as running lights I thought you were asking if the high wattage turn signal elements in the dual filament bulbs at the front of the bike should be lit all the time because that's how you indicated that you had wired them.

I can see now that I misunderstood your post, sorry my bad. You were asking if the low wattage marker light elements in the dual filament bulbs in the front turn signals are supposed to be lit when you turn the key switch to the on position. In that case yes the marker light elements in the front turn signals are supposed to be lit.

Stock front turn signals use three wires to make them work. As an example here's a pic of how the 6th gen. front turn signals are wired. If you want both your marker lights and turn signals to work properly then the simplest way to accomplish this is to get yourself a pair of three wire turn signals as I previously suggested.

thanks stoshman. That was exactly what I was looking for. Safetypro10, could you tell me what a diode does and how it works?
