    Hello!

I think the problem i have with my VFR is a bit trivial. Therefore i am here, asking if you have any ideas what might be the problem.

I have a VFR 800 FI from 2000 (RC46), which i bought last year with 79k kilometers on it.
This spring i had electrical issues where the battery were really warm and had no charge after 10 mins of riding. Fixed this by changing battery and regulator/rectifier. Also i took the stator out, checked it for faults, found it was in fine condition and put it back into its chamber. The VFR then ran smoothly for this season until last week, where my bike has started to just die on me mid-traffic after maybe 45 mins of riding. When this has happened the battery has so little charge, it wont start again (i have been able to roll start it when this has happened). This happening again now is weird.

Has anyone experienced the same problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

First you have to know if the battery is good, so best have it load tested. Second, I'd highly recommend a regulator upgrade and direct harness connection to the battery, such as a kit from Roadster Cycle.
Check all connectors for overheating and oxidation, including the starter relay. Clean them up can buy you some time. Again, if your battery is good.

Lack of charging of the battery could be a stator fault, the stator connector failing, the RR failing, or the battery failing.

The connector for the stator can corrode and reduce the charging voltage and also overheat and melt, so I'd look at that first. Fitting a voltmeter that displays while riding will enable you to monitor whether charging is an issue. As a static test, check the voltage across the terminals of a well-charged battery while the revs are at 5000; should be 13.5 - 14.5V.

There is a good problem solving flowchart for charging issues here: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1091/5694/files/fault-finding-diagram.pdf?235929069374954073

I would highly recommend doing "the drill" and check the stator and R/R again. Static and at 5000 rpm.

I had this problem earlier this year (it would die on me after a couple of days between riding) and found melted wires between the stator and R/R from a fix I did the prior year. I had to replace the R/R and the wiring with heavier gauge wire.

Also check that your ground block isn't melted (this gets hot too).

all stator checks can be made without removing it from the bike
