thanks again to everyone who helped out my last thread of yesterday. i've been away for some time and i forgot how helpful and kind this site is.

okay, previous owner ripped out the baffles on my stock exhaust:tsk:
now on neagtive acceleration (there is no such thing as deceleration), i get the wonderful popping sound coming out of my exhaust.

no performance issues, really. it's just something i do not like to hear.

is this a matter of adjusting my air screw, my pilot screw, both, or none?

    any help would be appreciated.
    cheers.

I can't say for sure as I have never done this, but I'd bet that you'll have to go back to a regular stock pipe to totally get rid of it. You might be able to adjust a little bit out, but I couldn't help there as I am terrible at fine tuning anything. ;) You could probably get a stock pipe on ebay cheap, though. Good luck.

I love the popping and snapping on decel.

    TBR stainless slip-on can here...

I am removing and cleaning carbs this winter, maybe will make a difference? I don't know, but the popping is very racy IMHO.

The popping is somewhat from reduced back pressure and a richening or leaning of the air/fuel mixture caused by the reduction in back pressure. I kinda like it and Ihave only really heard it when I have had the revs up high and then coast down via engine breaking. Also, while I cannot guarantee this last bit, it may be something that is there all the time, you just can't hear it with the OEM exhaust, but I am probably wrong on this point.

My VFR doesn't pop, it has a nice tight off throttle rumble, love it.. From what I know, which ain't much, is from my experience on other exhaust systems that get this popping, is there's an air leak some where in the exhaust system after the exhuast leaves the head, more than likely it could be the ring there at the collector, hate to think it would be in that snake of a header system under the engine as there's a couple three hook ups, when you back off on the throttle you create a vacuum where it will suck in air from out side mixing up the mixture making a popping sound. If she runs fine I'd probably leave well enough alone.
