I am preparing to do a valve clearance check on my 00 vfr and am wondering what supplies I need before I start. The manual mentions some kind of sealant for the valve cover. Not sure what kind of sealant they mean. Also, do you need to replace the cover packings? I think it mentions to replace the "o" rings around the joint collars too. Oh, one other thing, do the reed valves typically need to be replaced? How do you tell if there is wear?
I made a thread on this a while ago: http://vfrworld.com/forums/mechanics-garage/16474-tips-5th-gen-valve-clearance-inspection.html The sealant is in that thread plus I got some tips and tools info. The reed valves don't typically need to be replaced and the only time they'd need replacement is if they're rusting and falling apart.
just wondering if anyone has any info on doing this for a 6th Gen, we've got our 48000 check coming up soon & i am looking at doing it myself (i feel that i can do this - very scared though! lol). anyway in info or if someone can point me in the right direction for a service/repair manual that would be great.
One more thing, Joey: do I need any other "special" tools or supplies besides the leaf offset gauge and the silicone gasket? Just wanna line everything up before I get started. Thanks, man. I don't care what Cundalini says about you, you're alright with me!!!
