So I'm going to Sweden and Norway (mostly Stockholm and Oslo) for two weeks in May, and want to use my Google Nexus One phone while traveling. Does anyone have advice about what phone company to sign with? I need minutes to call back to Canada, as well as a couple of gigs of data.

Many thanks for any and all advice!

Hope it's not too late to answer.
I live in Norway. The best prepaid phone card for international calls is Lebara. They have it both in Norway and Sweden. Remember to ask about Lebara World. That is the cheapest one for international calls. The data costs is the best of the prepaid calls too.

I recommend you to buy a new sim card of the same type when you get to Sweden. Using prepaid cards abroad is pretty expensive!

Good luck and have a nice trip!

Thank you, mcdaddy. I am in Oslo now and to my shock was able to buy an international roaming package from my home carrier at a price I could stomach!

I do appreciate your info, though. Thanks!

And thanks for your first post! I haven't seen a single VFR in Sweden or Norway (yet). Do they exist? What do you ride?

    Hey Dig,

I'll be in Stockholm/Helsinki in Aug. I was wondering about the phone thing as well. Let me know how your phone works out.

McDaddy, you might be getting a pm about Stockholm "do's and don't's".

Sure! I have a Google Nexus One (uses the UMTS 850/1900/2100 MHz bands) and have prepaid Fido (my home carrier) for a package of minutes and text messages and have been able to connect via voice and data where ever I want in Oslo, Uppsala and Stockholm. Voice calls and text messages arrive here just like they do at home and my clients and family can't tell the difference.

Yeah! Quite a lot of them specially around Oslo! You usually don't see them in the city. Specially on weekends they are mostly out riding on small country roads around the town. We have even our own club! :)
I ride a blue 2005 v-tech with ABS. Love it!

Thats a nice ride. I was 'thinking' of renting a bike while I was there but it seems the insurance is off the charts.

My trip is set at: 7 nights in Stockholm, 7 in Helsinki. But I could grab a tåg out to Oslo. It will be considered.

Thanks very much, MC. This is a pretty sedate trip, as I am here facilitating a last overseas holiday for my elderly parents. I actually love the weather so no complaints from me!
