Hey ya'll, I've been looking over the forums for solutions for mounting and powering my Droid4 on my '09 VFR800. I'm pretty sure I've spotted a mount I like and now I need to figure out how to wire the mini-USB. I have very little experience with the electrical system in bikes, thus I just want to make sure I am getting the right stuff before I try to go forward.

So, I want to run a wire from under the seat and tank up to the top of the steering column where I'll put the mount for my phone. I gather from reading here that this is no problem. Is this the right device for me to do such a thing? : Amazon.com: Garmin Nuvi Hardwire Cable (Mini-USB connector) for Garmin Nuvi: GPS & Navigation

If so, do I wire it from the "Fused supply from battery" in this photo, or is the '09 VFR800 different? Does that just involve a quick solder and some heat shrink? New to all this (have soldered shorts on headphones though a few times).

With the right 5volt usb type power supply, you should be just fine with giving it it's own fused power from either the battery or one of the appropriate junctions. I have discovered that my droid really hates being in direct sunlight - the battery gets too hot and it stops charging. something to think about.

What you nees is a convertor from 12v to USB
    Amazon.com: Bracketron UGC-220-BL Universal 12V-to-USB Converter for GPS: MP3 Players & Accessories

And you need one of this

Connect the cigarette lighter to your head light or tail light connector, mount to the side of your fairing. Now you have some power to connect any device you like. Good luck hope this help

If you already have the fuse box, just connect to one of the terminal.............

That looks like it would do the trick, thanks. I assume there's no reason you couldn't put this under the seat and then run a usb wire all the way up under the gas tank to the stem?
