Tech @ the shop I use called me tonight. He has an 85 VF500F that a customer bought for $500, had issues with it. He took it to the shop, and my tech friend is helping him sell it. Has the title also. Tech says it dropped a valve, but I didn't get the whole story yet. Don't know if the tech tore into it, or if the owner let him listen and nose around for a few hours, thus keeping his potential outlay cheaper. He was unsure of the mileage, but he called me first to see if I wanted it for parts. Even though both of mine currently run, I thought I'd ride by tomorrow with a camera and check it out. Not sure I have room for it as I have a full bike garage (with no projects at the moment) and I'm not sure I have room for another bike. I could probably keep it temporarily for a few weeks to part out, but it couldn't stay long as I don't wanna have to do a Chinese fire drill in order to get something out to ride. So....I figured I'd see if any of you guys had a wish list of parts you need, and maybe I could help you out. It won't be free to me, but shouldn't be too much (my friend's gonna ask the owner how much he wants for it tomorrow a.m.) So...post it up and I'll report back tomorrow with details/fotos.
Saw the bike. Here's the scoop: Tech said he got into the engine, and saw the stem end of the valve had been hammered so hard it was now "bowl" shaped. It did not drop a valve, but he said it wouldn't run. It did run fine until earlier this week when he got it. It's an 1985 49-state version with 38,707 on the clock. It has a custom paint job. The upper is painted to match. Looks like the windscreen has been painted as well...flat black. Has L-P chrome reservoir covers on both sides. Has a matching Targa lower, but no OEM chin cowl. Seat looks like it's been taped a bit where it meets the tank. Frame looks straight and comes with a pink slip. Tank has a little unpainted bondo in it, looks like. F1 slip-ons, but looks like they need a little TLC to be nice. If you guys want something off it, I need to know ASAP as I need to tell my friend tomorrow. Right now, I would probably pull the carb bank/airbox off to keep for myself, but that's about it. I'd probably charge just enough to cover what the entire bike cost me on the parts, but low enough that I could move the stuff ASAP without messing with ebay. Or, heck, maybe you want the whole thing instead? Here are fotos...
