I was reading a repair book and they listed a lot of things they thought one should have on hand. A portable tachometer that goes to about 4000 rpm is recommended. I found one web page for 2 and 3 cylinder but none for 4 cylinder and would a portable tachometer for a V4 be the same as a portable tachometer for an inline 4.

Does your bike have a tach that functions? Theres alot of things I can think of that would be useful for doing various jobs on the bike, but a portable tachometer certainly isn't one of them. Just my two and a half cents. What would you need one for?

Yes they just go by cyls. The challenge is that simese coils fire twice so you need an adapter to cut the signal in 1/2. Unless you really need it... Well you don't need it.

^Good point, my bluepoint meter has an RPM hookup that I think I used once, just to see if it worked.
