I just got my 02 VFR800 last week, and it only has about 11,000 miles on it.

On my second tank of gas I only managed 32 mpg. I know that's not very good.
Also she seems to be lacking horsepower. It feels like it doesn't want to go any faster after I reach around 130 mph indicated.

One of my buddies has an 07' and it seems way faster.

I'm just wondering if you guys have suggestions as to what I should check. I really would like to be getting better mileage on my bike than in my cage.

    Thanks guys!

How is all the maintenance on the bike? Air filter check? Tires in great condition and proper inflate?
PCIII or V would help to smooth out the throttle. 06 and up they have change the vetch transition from 6800 to 6400 RPM maybe that why you feel lack of power.

What ambient temps are you riding in and what are the engine temps?

The tire pressure was dead on. It's been about 60 degrees when I've been riding lately, and the bike stayed around 160 while I was riding.

The bike is well maintained by the looks of everything. Also, the dealer does a "24 point inspection" on the bike before you can take it home, but I should really check the air filter. I will do that here in a few minutes.
Also, I definitely am looking into putting a PC on my bike after I get the rest of the electrical stuff figured out.

Last week it was a little warmer outside, and the thermostat read 180 when I was driving, over 200 at idle, so maybe the thermostat could be bad right now?

    Thanks guys!

Right !! A bad thermostat that doesn't allow the engine to get to it's optimum temperature will waste fuel, just like a failed sensor will.

180 to 200 is normal for 6th gen
The temp can climb to 220 to 225 in a warm day
Try to pull some fuel treatment and injection cleaner for the next couple tanks to see if it get better

The air filter looked fine! I will run some injector cleaner through on the next few loads and see if that cleans her up at all.

How would I know if there was a failing sensor somewhere?
Also, if the temp doesn't go above 165 on my next ride, should i assume my thermostat is stuck open?

Most likely, assuming you let the bike fully warm up.
