Poor Fuel Economy

Hey all, I'm new here. I've got myself a 2002 VFR800 Vtec. I've traded up from a 97 vfr750. I also used to own a 2000 VFR800, so you can see, I like my viffers!!

Anyway, since I've had the 02, I've notice the fuel economy doesn't seem very good. These bikes are renowned for great economy, amongst other things.
I'm gettin between 7-almost 8lt/100km.

This seems quite rich to me. I've got stock pipes on it and no mods.

Any thoughts??

If your using 7-8 liters per 100km, that means you are around 2 gallons, per 66 miles, or 33miles to the gallon. Yeah...that is a tad low, however if you are opening up the wrist all the time, keeping her above 6-7k, then it would be expected IMO. I dont own a 6th gen though...so wait for the other 6th folks to chime in. For kicks and giggles, try keeping it around 4000 for a tank, and see what happens.

So you have owned a 4th, 5th and 6th gen. Pros and cons to each if you would be so kind, in your humble opinion.

I have an '07 with no mods.....just a K&N air filter. My fuel economy ranges quite a bit, depending on how I ride. On the highway on a road trip doing 80-90 indicated, I've managed 48 mpg before. When I ride the twisties an hr from me and I'm tearing through the gears and keep it between 7-11K, it absolutely drinks the gas. I get in the high 20s. In mixed riding, I get in the mid 30s and back and forth to work I get in the high 30s. My friends that ride inline 600s get about 10 mpg better than me. A couple of guys with literbikes get about the same mileage as me.

There is a 6th Gen fuel mileage thread that may give you some more insight. I average about 39 mpg but I have seen it as low at 34 when riding aggressively.
