I must of done something stupid! I scraped the R side engine cover, so I removed it and re painted it. I put it back on, put fresh oil and filter and now it won't start. The starter spins but it won't fire up. I checked all fuses( all look good). There is some kind of square sensor looking thing attached to the inside of the case that I had to unbolt from the case to remove it. I'm pretty sure I put it all back the same way. Talked to Honda on the phone and not much help. They want to charge me to pick it up. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    yikes! on a 2010?

you could start by checking for spark.

Thanks. I will check for spark. Feeling like an idiot at present as it must be something I did when I pulled the engine cover off. I may start by pulling the cover back off to see if theres anything pinched with this sensor wire thats inside the case.

I wouldn't pull the cover back off just yet. Your no start issue could be completely unrelated. It's a lot easier to check for spark.

pulling the cover back off is grabbing at straws and chasing a hunch because you have nothing better to go on. You probably don't have spark, and there's a likelihood that it's related to the cover, but you haven't proven anything yet. For all we know you've inadvertently unplugged a fuel pump connector trying to get the thing apart in the first place. Earlier generation VFR's have the ignition pickup on the right side. Am looking at service honda parts fische to see if I can find the "sensor" you speak of.

Is the kill switch on the right hand grip in the run position? Not sure if the 2010 will crank or not with it off.

When I replaced the right side engine case on my 5th Gen, there was a lead that was labeled as an pulse generator/ignition sensing lead. It was possible to install that lead 180d off. If you did, it WILL NOT fire, period. Your ingition pulse would be 2 cylinders off. That would be the first thing I would check.

The sensor I'm talking about is part #9 on this page & it installs in a notch built into the right side case cover. I don't see the same part on the 7th Gen.

That makes sense. Ill try and get to one of the plugs. The bike will not turn over with the kill switch off. Thanks for your help.

Your link worked fine. I have the right side fairing off at present. Having a good look around and don't see anything out of sorts. I havn't got too a spark plug yet as that looks like quite the job. I'm hoping this pulse generator is the problem(or the dummy that put it in) I dont understand what this part does to be honest. think i had better dump the oil out and have a look. Thanks again for helping.

It does only stand to reason that the issue is the plug or the pins. Inspect with a critical eye, it is almost sure to be a simple problem. Do you have access to a good meter?

I am gonna say that your problem is within what you did nothing added.. the bike was running before you removed the cover....now its not....pretty easy... did you disconnect any other electrical plugs? side stand?

Sounds like you probably got it figured out. Let us know.

I always start with the basics when someone asks for help. You'll see numerous posts on the forum where someone asks for help, people chase it for three pages based on something the guy said (i.e. took the cover off), and then he finally comes back and says, "GUYS! I GOT IT. Turns out when I changed the fuel filter, I forgot to turn the petcock back on." Thorough, methodical, and start with easy stuff. Don't follow hunches and only believe half of what people say.

Do you visit www.cosportbikeclub.org ? Not much going on over there right now obviously, but great source for local rides and events. Would love to see your bike some time!

Just fired up the bike! All is good. Of course, it was my stupidity. After having a look at it, you really have to try to put that sensor in the wrong way!
Dont know if you guys are like me, but when the bikes not up to snuff, neither am I and I go into a pouting depressed mood ( poor wife! )
Any way I can stop being a big baby now and get on with it!
Thanks again for all the help. Its really nice to know people are out there and willing to help.
