Probably depends on how many staples are used and how large an area. What is not addressed is the cosmetic "fix" and the biggie, is how effecient the thing is on really thin plastic like an ABS fairing.

I'm thinking you real wrenches are thinkin, "I could make one of those damn things in my shop with a couple of soldering irons and some baling wire!"

For those of us not so skilled, we must wait for our next Harbor Freight flyer and get the Chinese version for $29.95..

neat idea. I'm skeptical that it would hold as well as plastic welding.

what I'd really like to do is a combination of both. With the plastic welding, it's not always easy to know when you have good penetration and a good weld. Finding a way to properly hold the pieces that are being joined is another huge problem. Using both methods together could work awesome.

Most of that stuff can be worked out. A quickie fix for holding parts like busted up fairings is a bean bag and someselective anchoring with gel superglue catalyzed with bicarbonate of soda. Used sparingly, spot weld the ABS then if need be, the superglue can be popped off usually with a pocket knife.

Applicators for the superglue mix? I use those bamboo skewers or toothpicks. Work fast!

    Bondo anyone? YIKES..

I've been using a tub of plumbers putty with a layer of aluminum foil between the plastic and putty.

Back in the day before all this new-fangled stuff came out we used to use flour and water. Works great but I hope Randy doesn't try it.

Clear plastic shipping tape on the outside of the pieces hold them in alignment while you're busy welding the inside.

Well now that you mention it. I have one of those pistol grip soldering guns with two heating bars. I don't use it because irons are best for electronics. Sooo why not cut the soldering squiggly thing off, drill a small hole in each leg and now would have a Tech hot Stapler. Could use the bailing wire for the little squiggly stitch thing.

Thanks BB I'm gonna go get rich now. Only 19.95 and throw in 10 stitches.

Just bought a trigger type soldering gun from Harbor Freight. Got three tips with it.. There are combo soldering/woodburning trigger types with pots for less than that stapler costs. Woodworkers Store... The original probably is good but six hundred bucks is a little steep unless ya had a bunch of work. I wonder if it works on fibreglass resin..?

So who might wanna try a Swingline and a propane torch for thier next fixit project?

The only problem with that is that Spike will believe you and in 500 words or more explain why it ain't a good idee..

We use the flour and water mix and to keep it waterproof, coating the repair over with nail polish.

Then fill it with candy, hang it from the patio ceiling and hit it with bats blindfolded on your birthday
