I got the bodywork on my VFR. Had purchased it in March. Done numerous typical repairs and thought it was normal for a bike with 50,000 miles on it.

I did a compression test on in last month and decided that the engine should be freshened up. I found a good used 750 motor and installed it. The engine really purrs now, I am not a mechanic and didn't want to get involved in rebuilding a 25 year old engine. http://vfrworld.com/forums/1st-2nd-generation-1983-1989/34989-vfr-700-750-conversion.html

I think it will suit me for at least a year. Has nice quiet torque at 3500 and is pretty strong from 4200. I am running stock VTR1000 mufflers.

I have the single seat conversion kit but have not put it on yet.

In a way it is too bad that the paint is in as good of shape as it is. I want to paint it Olive green and put on a Flying Tiger shark mouth. Two of my other vehicles a motorcycle and a van are both camo.

It looks pretty darn good to me. I agree that based on the condition, keep it true to the RWB. You might want to consider trying to find the rear seat cowl. That will really enhance the looks. Nice work.

PAINT IT? . . . are you crazy?

The '86 was/is one of the nicest paint schemes . . . ever!

Put some weird paint job on it and it's value will drop to zero.

I'm cheap and that is the reason it is RWB. Reminds me of my old FZR1000 (gone) and my RZ350 (in corner). My bike looks pretty good from 3 feet away. The fairings have a yard of carbon fiber and flox layed in behind them. Beauty is only skin deep, she has been rode hard and put up wet. My tank is pretty good though, no rust just some minor paint chips. Be careful what you trade for crusty. :)
