I have a 86 VF500F. No fuel pump. The petcock seems to have gone south. With the lever in the "off" position fuel still flows through ( took the tank off and got covered in gas). I am assuming that, vacuum working or not, a petcock in the off position should not flow fuel.... So I was wondering if anyone knew what other bikes shared the same petcock as an 86 VF500F, so I can start looking for a replacement. Or can I drill the rivits off the petcock to repair the internals? does anyone know if it has o-rings on the inside that can be swapped?
The only ones i've seen like the Interceptors are the 83-87 500, 700, 750, and 1000's. They are known to leak, pretty much on all Hondas. You can drill out the rivets and replace with screws, but I've never seen that done on this kind(internal) only the small external ones. I haven't seen replacement gaskets for interceptors though, just the older external ones(Nighthawks, etc). http://www.oldbikebarn.com/motorcycle_parts.php?subcategory=Petcock Rebuild Kits&bike=CB550 Ebay might have something, my Nighthawk leaks like a SOB, so I just keep it in "on", when doing repairs, drain the tank into a gas can.
