Hey Map experts, I just finished installing my new FMF exhaust this weekend and I wanted to update the PC111 map. I was running the standard stock exhaust map and started to research which map to download but it is unclear which is best. Most say run the Cozy map but its for 02-05 not perfect for 06-09. I want to get a dyno tune but will need to save up for it. WHAT IS THE BEST MAP TO RUN??....Heres some pics and by the way it sounds really cool in the basement!:flypig:

In the absence of an FMF map fron Dynojet, I would actually try the map for a Two Bros M2 vale; available from Two Bros and not Dynojet. The reason I suggest that is because I recently rode with another member who had the FMF and I noticed the y-pipe isn't really much of a functioning y-pipe at all. From what I gathered, the leftside can was getting very little use compared to the right. Since the Two Bros map was designed for right can only use and is also a short can, I think it would make for as good a map as possible while waiting to get the bike on a dyno. If it blows you can always get another, and equally unimpressive, downloadable. Exhaust looks sharp by the way.

Hey, did your Y pipe come with that heat shield, or did you add it? (mine doesn't have one, as you know) Also, do you plan on mounting them reversed like mine, in the future? One more thing, is your Y pipe still more of a T like mine, or have they improved that, to get more exhaust out the left side? BTW, I'm the one havcar was referring to in his post. I did finally get a PCIII, but I'm still working on a interim map until I get it dynoed.

PM sent Dave, maybe give Hero your thoughts after you get a chance to try it out? Although that could take a minute with this weather.

Thanks Dave...Yeah, it's gonna be awhile...looks like another 4-8 inches tomorrow, if the weather folks are right. Of course they didn't say shit about the possibility for the 8" I got Sat-Sun.

Allthough I can't tell you what the "best" map is to run as I'm just starting to experiment myself, there is an updated Cozy map made for the 06 up

Thanks for the great thought. That is what I will do. We have a place here in Cincy called Pro Stock Performance that does Dyno tuning. What questions do I ask them to be sure I know They know what they are doing? What to look out for?...Thanks again.

Dave, That shield is from Targa ($29.00). My boot sure looked like it would hit the pipe (up on the balls of my feet), didn't yours?? Y pipe is the same but that may be a good thing because Two Bros design makes a little more hp with their one pipe set up. I dont have hard bags and I really like how these pipes look. My soft bags should be ok with the cool running carbon F.

I you study the maps, they are all over the place, all so different. I know a dyno is the way too go.

Are you talking about when you go in for the dyno? Or are they they installing the PC for you without a dyno?

Can't help you out with a map, but very nicely done, Heros. Looks great all cleaned up and removing the "clutter" that's back there. I always thought removing the passenger footpegs gave these bikes a totally different look. Love it.

^^^ Exactly why I don't date chicks that enjoy riding but don't own a bike. I would rather buy a potential pillion a Ninja 250 than put those damn pegs on.

If we're to understand his original post, it appears he already has the PC installed.

That sounded like a real good question - Re: questions to ask the tuner.

The dyno shop I've been using said that some shops will not give you an expanded chart of the fuel mapping. They'll show you a HP and Torque curve but leave the fuel map shrunk down so you can't see how well they dialed it in.

I must be short a chromosome this morning. I now see that it is installed, but I'm still not clear on what's going on at the tuners. Getting a custom, or a download, etc.

I can say that a tuner with any VFR experience should know right off the bat that o2 elims are required for the tune. He should be looking for as smooth a curve as possible rather than shooting for peak HP. The tuner should also run a preliminary dyno with the PC disconnected, this will give you an idea of how bad the stock map is through seeing the major power loss at mid-tach. When the tuner has reinstalled the PC and programmed the custom map, that crater in the graph should be completely gone. When you ride it you should notice that there is no more off-idle (parking lot speed) surging and VTEC transition should be barely perceptible other than sound. He should also be telling you that if you plan any future mods, full exhaust, airfilters, environmental control removal, etc etc, that the Dyno should wait untill they've been completed. On a side note; if you happended to get one of the 6 gens that has a noneffectual, but very annoying ticking, you may want to consider removing the evap can and blocking off the pair valve before you dyno tune. No real gains to be made except some weight loss and a smoother sounding noise coming the engine. My bike does this, and it is definitly a rattling evap can making the noise. If I get a full exhaust and another dyno, that sucker is coming out.

Every tune is slightly differant, you'll want to see you're HP between 98-101 and torque between 54-56. Obviously higher numbers are fine, but unlikely. It's more to do with a machine that runs a hell of a lot better than it is a machine that gains major power.

Guys thanks for all the comments. I have a PC111 and no o2's.... Havcar thanks for the insight, it helped a lot. I now know what to ask the tuner. Knowledge is power. The topic should have been "What to ASK the Tuner"
