I'm working from the front to the back giving the my new girl a good cleaning and inspection(1986 VFR 750F).

Folded the passenger pegs down and noticed they do not go all the way down. I say all the way down as I am accustomed to seeing the pegsfold down to such a degree such that the angle relative to the bike would be approx 90Deg. Mine go down to about 80 Deg. Is this normal for the model or is there something wrong with my pegs / mounts??

I'm guessing I could bevel the end of the pegs or remove some material to assist in the process of lowering but wonder if that is wise. I'd hate to ruin a good set of pegs trying to fix something that was normal.

Can someone with this model have a look at their pegs when lowered and see if they go "all the way down"--meaning to a 90 Deg angle.

I know this sounds a bit compulsive but just want the truth to the matter.

Thank you for any /all help.

    Regards to all.

    .................

The pegs have a spring and ball detent that clicks in at the proper (fully down) position. If those have rusted or jammed up, there's your problem.:frown:

Try spraying your favourite lube around the bottom of the pegs and working them up and down a few times, but if that doesn't work.......

Remove the bolt holding the pegs in place, being super careful not to loose the detent ball and spring inside the peg, newly liberated and eager for freedom.

As you suggested have already removed the bolt holding the pegs in place, being super careful not to loose the detent ball and spring inside the peg, newly liberated and eager for freedom.

These pieces in fact were in excellent condition with no evidence of them being "frozen" or corroded into a non working position. I cleaned out the dirt / debris behind the pegs and cleaned up the "swivel" area and put them back together with a good dab of assembly lube.

Pegs STILL only open to about an 80 deg position. so they slightly keep a passengers feet at an odd angle.

Would it be an idea to trim / grind down the leading edge or "tongue" of the peg to allow it to open up more fully?

Maybe someone could walk to their bike and put the passenger pegs down to let me know if in fact they do open fully and rest at a 90 deg angle??

Thank you to any / all with additional input.

    Regards

    Ricardo

I'm pretty sure they all sit flat, it is that they sit at 80 degrees to the centre line of the bike

They may have a bit of an angle on them to give passenger a bit of grip. Less likely to slip foot off maybe?
