I got the rick's rectifier today and was curious, the back of it is flat metal like the oem so is it to sit flush with the frame to help it dissipate heat? Wouldn't it be better to put a washer or two in between so air will circulate and cool it off better?

While doing this I took off the passenger handles because they were scratched. Is this paint or some sort of vinyl coating?

    thanks

You want the R/R flush, forget the washers.

Think about it this way: You're in the bathroom in the morning with one bare foot on the tiles and one bare foot on the mat. The tile and the mat are the same temperature, but the tiles feel colder because they conduct heat away from your feet faster than the mat. Air doesn't transfer heat very well.

Some people even put thermal paste on the back of the R'R to help transfer heat to the frame.
