Ok to make a long and complicated story brief I bought some new "red" plastics for my 1998 VFR from a website and the front cowl was a much much lighter red than the rest of the bike so I called the place where I bought it from and I returned the part to obtain a new one. I just got a call back and they told me its the same color as the part I returned  Now my question is....arent all Honda VFR's from 1998 to 2001 the same color red (R-157)? I have been on the phone about 20 times over this matter. If anyone can shed some light on this matter then it will be much appreciated.

well your old will not match the new through axidation... may need to clay bar and buff out old fairings but the paint color number should be what color it is..

I also ordered a new side fairing that matched my other fairing and tail fairing perfectly, the cowl just seemed to be about 5 shades lighter than the rest of the plastics (new & old). Now I have to go another week without my bike :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

The guy mixing the paint that day was having a bad day? Who knows.

I do know I have a similar issue on my bike, it looks like the right side was replaced with OEM replacement parts at one time... they are about 1/2 a shade darker than the rest of the bike.

I recently had my Corbin Beetle Bags painted red (they were yellow - I bought them used). The shooter matched the paint quite well, though not exact, but good enough, especially for how little he charged me. Certainly much better than the piece they sent you. Odd.

What sucks im my case is that its the cowl and you can see the difference from both sides! I have requested that the Honda distribution center compare the cowl to a side fairing to make sure its the correct color. And what really sucks is I havent been able to ride my bike for over two weeks!!

Did you buy Honda original parts or where they duplicates?
My bike is about four different colors but you can't see that unless you're real close. I bought it used and the upper fairing and left side don't match each other or the tail section -- all honda parts
If the paint code is the same then all the vfr's are the same red, but remember the paint will fade over time.
I would recc painting everything the same color or living with a 15' bike! (it looks great from 15 feet away)!!
