    Hey Guys,
Hope someone here with more knowledge can help. I flushed my cooling system, everything flowed nice. Refilled with honda 50\50. As soon as I hit maybe two three red lights the temo jumps up to 230 plus. Fluid comes out of the over flow on my boots, and I hear a bubbling. Anything I can do at home before chucking up the cash to a service place? Thanks To all that reply

You would be better off running a water and water wetter in the summer. 70 Antifreeze / 30 water mix is the norm for all around in states that have freezing temps I know, since that is not you, 50/50 should be fine. However, like I said, I think that you would be better off running water wetter from redline (just be sure to never leave it in if you travel to freezing climates overnight in the winter.. Plain water (use distilled of course) dissipates heat much faster than antifreeze. I just think that your mix is causing your cooling system not to be able to dump heat fast enough.

Oh, and assuming your cooling fan is running, and your thermostat is working properly.

Edit: Like Action stated....make sure that air is not in your system.

You should be able to trouble shoot it if you want to. Look at how the cooling system flows.

The thermostat opens at around 180F, if your left side radiator is not getting hot by 190 then your tstat is stuck closed. Your fan should come on around 220-225F if its not then start looking there. When you changed out your fluids did you burp the system while the bike was on the side stand? An air pocket in the system can cause a sudden over heat. A bad radiator cap can also cause you system to over heat since it cannot pressurize. If you used the Honda brand premixed antifreeze you should be good. I use it here in New Mexico and ride in temps over 100F with no problem (as long as you're not stuck in traffic for extended periods.)

    Cooling System

    How about some additonal info?
Was the bike over heating prior to the flush and fill?
If not you may have air trapped in the system as a result of your flush. The air would prevent flow and result in over heating. Did you stick to a procedure fom a manual?
If the system was overheating prior to the flush and fill there could be several reasons. Stuck thermostat etc.
I believe you made the right choice with your selection of antifreeze. There are issues about the type of water to use as a mix with the "new preference" being demineralized water. (soft water but not from a salt process). Obvious ly you have gone with the manufacturers recommendations instead of the backyard engineer or personal preference. Pretty hard to go wrong with the Honda product even if you paid a little more. I think you will find that a mix of 70% antifreeze (max) and 30% water will increase the boiling point of the mix but only by a small margin.
    Hope this helps.

It over heated one day when I was stuck in traffic, that prompted the flush and fluid change. As I hear the fan kick on but that does not help. How hard is it to change the thermostat? I am in school and trying the do it yourself save money route. Any tips help thanks guys, still learning how to work on bikes in general.

If you're reasonably sure it's the thermostat here's a link on how to replace it

I heard a guy from vfrd changed the fan to a super hawk - it blows out instead of the vfrs sucking in. By his tests cooling was much improved. Strangely I tryed to buy the part and they are on back order - go figure.

All troubleshooting/issues aside. Switch to Water Wetter. You'll be fine year around there, unless you plan on using your bike as a snowmobile up in Flagstaff during the winter.

My 02 did the same thing last summer. I stooped at a stoplight and had the overflow coming from under bike.

My problem was threefold: I had a radiator fan that did not turn on, my thermostat was stuck, and I needed a new radiator cap. Let's just say there was a lot of troubleshooting going on.

Anyway, I fixed all three things myself for pretty cheap (under $100).

Thanks to all that replied, I put water wetter in it and all seems fine now. Should still replace cap and thermostat. Again thanks.
